Bentley to Wrap Up Florida Portion of Schedule with 7 Games in 8 Days

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University baseball team, riding a three-game winning streak, will conclude the Florida portion of its season this coming week with seven games in eight days.

The Falcons will begin a four-game series with the University of Bridgeport on Saturday, with all four being played at the University of Tampa. Following a day off Wednesday, coach Bob DeFelice will take his team to Clearwater, Fla. for three games against Minnesota-Crookston.

Bentley, 4-5, is coming off a three-game sweep of Saint Anselm College Feb. 27-28. The pitching was outstanding that weekend with the Falcons holding the Hawks to a .163 average and only two runs in 27 innings.

Starters on that trip were grad student Bill Sullivan (Carver/Carver HS), junior Evan Walsh (Arlington/Arlington Catholic HS) and freshman Paul Frisoli (Watertown/Arlington Catholic HS). Sullivan pitched seven shutout innings, Frisoli six one-hit innings and Walsh gave up one hit in six innings.

Sullivan, a righty, has been the Falcons' best pitcher so far with a 2.12 ERA and a .188 opponents' batting average in 17 innings. He's struck out 15 while walking just three.

Junior shortstop Justin Ashworth (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional HS) has played well in the season's first three series with a .412 average and only one error in 45 chances. Grad student and first baseman Ryan O'Connor (Newburyport/Newburyport HS) had six hits in the Saint Anselm series, raising his average to .314.

Freshman right field Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS) homered twice against Saint Anselm and leads the Falcons in RBI with seven.

Bentley, which was number five in the preseason Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division coaches' poll, will begin its home and Northeast-10 schedule Mar. 25 and 26 against nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire.
