Korwek Selected for NEIBA All-Star Game

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University catcher Kevin Korwek (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) has been selected to participate in the 39th annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association Joe Walsh All-Star Game, which will be held Monday, June 3 at Le Lacheur Park in Lowell, home of the Lowell Spinners. First pitch is scheduled at 7 pm.

The game pits New England's Division I all-stars against a combined Division II-III team.

Korwek, who graduated from Bentley on May 18, was an iron-man behind the plate for the 2013 Falcons, catching 433 of 451 innings, including the last 389. He finished the season with only two errors in 49 games for a .994 fielding percentage, and threw out about 25 percent of the runners attempting to steal (26 of 102).

Korwek, a first-team All-Northeast-10 Conference selection, also got it done at bat, with his .284 average second best on the team. His 31 RBI tied for the team-lead, and he was third in runs scored with 30.

Korwek batted .345 with runners in scoring position, and with a runner on third and less than two out, he got the run in 71 percent of the time (15 of 21).

The four-year starter finished his career with a .278 average and ranking in the top ten in Bentley history in at bats (687, 4th), games (176, 5th), hits (191, 8th), putouts (951, 3rd), total chances (1083, 3rd) and fielding percentage (.991, 3rd).

Bentley finished the 2013 season with a 27-22 record, including 23-16 against East Region opponents.
