Finneran & Baggett Selected for Daktronics All-East Region Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – Right-handed pitcher Rob Finneran (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City HS) and designated hitter/catcher Greg Baggett (East Bridgewater/East Bridgewater HS), a duo who helped the Bentley University Falcons post a 28-14 record against regional competition, have been selected for the 2012 Daktronics NCAA Division II Baseball All-East Region second team.

Both Finneran, a grad student, and Baggett, a senior, were previously voted to the All-Northeast-10 Conference first team.

Finneran became the second pitcher in Bentley history to win eight games in a season, finishing at 8-3 with a 2.26 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 79.2 innings. Against the East, his numbers were even more impressive as he won eight of ten decisions, held hitters to a .212 average, pitched to a 1.85 ERA and struck out 73 in 73 innings. Only nine of the 63 hits he allowed all season went for extra bases, and he stretched his string of innings without allowing a homer to 85.1.

Finneran, who missed the 2011 season due to surgery, closed out his collegiate career with a 21-8 record, tying the school record for wins. He's also number one in program history in ERA (2.81), strikeouts (229, an average of 8.58 per nine innings) and winning percentage (.724).

Baggett was one of the top sluggers in the Northeast-10, ranking fourth overall in slugging (.569) and second in conference games (.745). He was also second in NE-10 games in both triples and homers, with nearly half of his 47 hits for extra bases (10 doubles, five triples, eight homers).

Overall, Baggett batted .294 while splitting time between DH and catcher. He was consistent, hitting .297 with four homers in 24 games as a catcher and .291 with four HR in 24 games as a DH.

Bentley finished the 2012 season with a 28-23 record.
