Wollerman, O’Neil Help Southern New Hampshire Top Bentley, 6-2

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Freshman second baseman Jamie Wollerman (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) had four hits and grad student Chris O'Neil (Chelmsford) slammed a two-run triple during a three-run first inning as Southern New Hampshire handed Bentley University a 6-2 loss in Northeast-10 Conference baseball at DeFelice Field Tuesday afternoon.

The Penmen, who reached the 20-win mark with the victory, established control early with three runs before there were two outs in the game. After leadoff hitter Tim Rines (Merrimack, N.H.) was thrown out attempting to steal, Wollerman started things again for SNHU with a single through the left side.

Freshman left fielder Albert Stanton (Sandwich) was hit by a pitch and both he and Wollerman scored on O'Neil's triple to right center. A single to right by sophomore shortstop Matt Boulter (Wrentham) plated O'Neil with the Penmen's third run.

Bentley battled back with single runs in the third and fourth innings. Freshman center fielder Sean Keady (Norwood/Norwood HS) reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, took third on a passed ball and scored on a single to right by senior Ross Curley (Lexington/Lexington HS) for the Falcons' first run. In the fourth, an RBI single by freshman DH Nathan Witkowski (Melrose/Malden Catholic HS) drove in junior left fielder Kevin Korwek (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS), who had walked.

Southern New Hampshire (20-19, 8-11 NE-10) restored the lead to two with a run in the sixth and made it a four-run game with two more in the eighth. Senior first baseman Robert Wronski (Arlington) had an RBI double in the sixth, and the eighth inning saw Stanton score on a fielder's choice and Boulter score the game's final run on a throwing error.

Sophomore lefty Timothy Flight (Portsmouth, R.I.) quieted the Bentley bats all afternoon, allowing only five hits in eight innings of work. He walked two and struck out a pair while winning for the fifth time in seven decisions.

Wollerman and Stanton (2-for-2, 2 runs scored) each had a multi-hit game for SNHU, which finished with a dozen off six Bentley pitchers. Witkowski was two-for-three for the Falcons.

Bentley (11-22, 5-11 NE-10) came up with three outfield assists in the game. Keady ended a pair of innings, throwing out a runner at the plate for the final out of the sixth and another at third to close the seventh. In addition, senior right fielder Chris Hardy (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken HS) finished the ninth by throwing out a runner at second.

The two teams complete their home-and-home series Thursday afternoon at SNHU (3:30 pm).
