Curley, Hardy Help Bentley to 6-2 Win over Assumption

WALTHAM, Mass.-- Senior third baseman Ross Curley (Lexington/Lexington HS) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and senior right fielder Chris Hardy (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken HS) drove in two runs as Bentley University topped Assumption College, 6-2, in Northeast-10 Conference baseball Monday afternoon at DeFelice Field.

Bentley coupled a 12-hit attack with solid pitching from sophomore righty John Yohe (Merrick, N.Y./St. Dominic's HS). He authored his second complete game of the season, notched his third victory of the spring and lowered his ERA to 3.15. Yohe scattered ten hits while giving up just single runs in the second and fourth innings, and struck out five, maintaining his impressive 5-1 strikeout-walk ratio (47 K's, 9 BB in 60 innings).

The Falcons, en route to their third straight home win, jumped on top with two runs in the bottom of the first. Curley singled to center and scored one pitch later on Hardy's triple to right center. A passed ball allowed Hardy to come in with the team's second run.

In the third, freshman center fielder Sean Keady (Norwood/Norwood HS) singled to center and Curley followed with a single to the shortstop hole. Hardy drove in Keady with a single through the right side, and Curley advanced to third on the play. Junior catcher Greg Baggett (East Bridgewater/East Bridgewater HS) grounded to short with Curley coming in from third with Bentley's fourth run.

Bentley added single runs in the fifth and eighth innings. Junior shortstop Vinnie Eruzione (Winthrop/Winthrop HS) reached on an error and scored on a double play for the fifth inning run, and Baggett scored in the eighth. He led off with a double to right center, was sacrificed to third and scored on a single to right by sophomore second baseman Logan Gillis (Merrimack, N.H./Lawrence Academy).

In addition to Curley, Gillis also had a three-hit afternoon for the Falcons, who had at least one hit  in every inning but the second. The top three hitters in the lineup (Keady, Curley, Hardy) were a combined 7-for-12 with four runs scored as both Keady and Hardy were 2-for-4.

Junior catcher Tim Quinn (Holden) scored both of Assumption's runs and finished the day with two hits in a walk in four plate appearances.

Bentley improved to 11-21 overall and 5-10 NE-10 while Assumption saw its records fall to 12-24 overall and 6-11 conference.

Bentley is back at home Tuesday for a 3:30 meeting with Southern New Hampshire.
