Pace Holds Off Bentley, 8-4; 3 Hits Apiece for Falcons’ Rey & Korwek

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Senior right fielder Kenny Wright (Middle Island, N.Y.) was 4-for-5 and three teammates drove in two runs apiece as Pace University topped Bentley University, 8-4, in non-conference college baseball Wednesday evening at Alfond Stadium, on the campus of Rollins College.

Bentley, which had won five of its previous seven, pounded out a season-best 14 hits, with both junior catcher Kevin Korwek (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) and junior first baseman Lamarre Rey (Lynn, Mass./Pingree School) each having three hits.

Pace (6-4-2) took an early lead with single runs in the first and third innings and Bentley (5-7) was never able to catch up. Wright had an RBI triple for the first Setter run and an RBI single by freshman shortstop Steven Martinez (Bronx, N.Y.) made it 2-0.

Bentley got on the board in the bottom of the third, an RBI single by senior right fielder Chris Hardy (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken HS) plating junior shortstop Vinnie Erusione (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop HS), who had singled. The RBI was his 12th already this season.

After two Pace runs in the sixth made it a 4-1 game, the Falcons got back within one with two in the seventh. Senior DH Ross Curley (Lexington, Mass./Lexington HS) and Korwek each drove in runs with singles in the frame.

The Setters pulled away with two runs in both the eighth and ninth innings. Wright had a hand in both, doubling and scoring in the eighth and singling in the ninth.

Bentley's final run of the game was scored in the bottom of the eighth, a single by sophomore third baseman Logan Gillis (Merrimack, N.H./Lawrence Academy) driving in freshman center fielder Sean Keady (Norwood, Mass./Norwood HS) with the Falcons' fourth run.

In addition to three hits from both Rey and Korwek, Bentley's offense included two hits from both Gillis and Keady.

Bentley continues its Florida trip on Thursday with a 1:00 game against the University of Bridgeport in Ormond Beach.
