6 Bentley Teams & 374 Student-Athletes Recognized by Northeast-10 for Academic Excellence

WALTHAM, Mass. – Six Bentley University teams have received 2015-16 Team Academic Excellence Awards from the Northeast-10 Conference, an award presented to the program in each of the conference's varsity sports that achieved the highest grade point average.

Among those earning the honor were the men's indoor track and men's outdoor track teams, both with 3.430 GPSs. Both have received the recognition each of the seven years since the award was created in 2010.

Football (3.060) and men's lacrosse (3.320) were both honored for the sixth time in seven years, men's cross country (3.470) received the award for the fifth time, and men's golf (3.460) was cited for the fourth time.

Overall for Bentley, all of its varsity programs achieved a 3.0 GPA during the 2015-16 academic year. That 100 percent success rate exceeds the Northeast-10's overall mark of 75 percent of its 292 teams turning in a 3.0 or better.

The conference also announced the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the spring semester and Bentley led the NE-10 with 374 student-athletes recognized for having a GPA of 3.0 or better for the semester. That represented 77 percent of the university's student-athletes, the second highest mark in the NE-10.

Of the 374, approximately half (188) recorded GPA's of at least 3.50 during the spring, including eight who achieved a perfect 4.0: Andrew Bertini (men's track and cross country), Brian Kirby (football), Morgan Mazone (softball), Kamil Pilch (men's tennis), Jill Raia (softball), Susan Stowe (women's tennis), Sal Visali (golf) and Anne Warren (women's swimming).
