10 Bentley Teams & 348 Student-Athletes Recognized by Northeast-10 for Academic Excellence

WALTHAM, Mass. – A record ten Bentley University teams have received 2014-15 Team Academic Excellence Awards from the Northeast-10 Conference, an award presented to the program in each of the conference’s 24 sports that achieved the highest grade point average.

Among those earning the honor were the men’s indoor track and men’s outdoor track teams, both with 3.45 GPAs. Both of those teams have received the recognition all six years since the award program debuted in 2010.

Football (3.08) and men’s lacrosse (3.23) were both recognized for the fifth time in six years while baseball (3.19), women’s cross country (3.49), women’s indoor track (3.48), women’s outdoor track (3.48), women’s lacrosse (3.46) and men’s tennis (3.38) were first-time honorees.

Overall for Bentley, all 22 of its Northeast-10 programs achieved a 3.0 GPA during the 2014-15 academic year and 14 of those posted a GPA of 3.3 or better.

The conference also recently announced the Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the spring semester and Bentley led the NE-10 with 76 percent of its student-athletes (a total of 348) recognized for having a GPA of 3.0 or better for the semester.

“Our student-athletes continue to be a tremendous source of pride for Bentley University, said Assistant Athletics Director Cindy Scott, whose duties include overseeing academic advising. “Their academic success, as evidenced in the Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Team Academic Excellence award winners, is testament to the commitment of academic excellence by our student athletes, coaches and administrators.  The Bentley student-athlete personifies the true meaning of a “student-athlete”.

Of the 348, 162 achieved GPAs of at least 3.50 during the spring, including seven who recorded perfect 4.0’s: Andrew Bertini (men’s track and cross country), Andrew Bitto (men’s track), Jacqueline Carlson (women’s track and field), Nicholas Cilia (men’s swimming and diving), Amy Ernst (women’s lacrosse), Keegan Hyland (men’s basketball) and Gina Lirange (field hockey).
