Bentley Women Led by Burmester at Ted Owen Invitational

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Sophomore Caitlin Burmester (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin HS) was the first Bentley University women's cross country runner across the finish line as she was 46th among 159 runners Saturday during Central Connecticut State University's Ted Owen Invitational at Stanley Park Field.

Burmester finished the 5,000-meter course in 19:50 and missed a top-40 finish by only eight seconds. Among non-Division I runners, she was second across the finish line.

The next Falcon to finish was junior Anna Jones (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich HS), who placed 111th in 21:35.

Bentley, which recorded a team score of 314, finished 11th of 12 overall. It was a close finish for the team championship with Rhode Island (47), New Hampshire (51) and Central Connecticut (58) separated by only 11 points.

Individually, Central Connecticut's Dana Ashley was the first to the tape as her 18:01 was three seconds faster than runner-up Sofia Piccone of URI.

In two weeks, Bentley will be at Franklin Park for the New England Championships.
