Seven Straight Wins for Volleyball After 3-1 Victory over Saint Anselm
WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley won its seventh straight match on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Saint Anslem.
Ingrid Murphy, Caitlin Wunder and Rachel Vitko all had double figures in kills with Murphy's 15 leading the way.
Setter Natalie Thom had a career-high 34 assists and freshman Elliet Manning notched 16. Bentley had 11 aces as a team. Maddy Kelly and Elizabeth Blinn each had three block assists and Kelly added a solo block.
The first set was back-and-forth but Bentley closed it out strong. Trailing 20-19 they scored six of the final seven points to win the set 25-21. The final two points were kills by Wunder and Murphy.
Bentley started fast in the second set and led by as much as 13-4. The Hawks fought back to get to within 21-16 but Bentley stamped out any hopes of a rally. Kills by Blinn, Wunder and Murphy brought them to set point and an ace by Blinn finished the set at 25-19.
The Falcons hit just .064 as a team in the third set as Saint Anselm stayed alive with a 25-23 victory.
But Bentley bounced back with a .308 hitting percentage in the 4th set and won it 25-22 to clinch the match.
Another tight set was tied 21-21 before a kill by Vitko put Bentley ahead for good. An attack error by the Hawks and an ace by Jazzy Burke set up match point at 24-21. Saint Anselm stayed alive for one more point before a kill by Vitko finished it off at 25-22
Vitko had a set high five kills and hit .556.
The Falcons are now 11-3 on the season. They are back in action on Tuesday when they visit Franklin Pierce.
