Volleyball Topped by No. 4 Tampa 3-1 on Final Day of Hoffman Tournament

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley fell to No. 4 ranked Tampa 3-1 on the final day of the Sandy Hoffman Memorial Tournament. Caitlin Wunder led the Falcons with 10 kills and Natalie Thom had 11 assists.

The Falcons went 2-1 during the tournament, with a 3-0 win over AIC and a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over New Haven on Friday. Tampa went 3-0 over the two days and improved to 6-0 on the season.

The first three sets were each decided by two points as Bentley won the first set and Tampa the second and third sets. However the Falcons ran out of steam in the fourth set as Tampa took it 25-10.

The first set was tied 23-23 and Bentley claimed the final two points. Ingrid Murphy and Elizabeth Blinn combined on a block to give the Falcons set point. Thom then came up with a service ace on the next point to seal the game.

In game two, Bentley trailed 24-21 but staved off two game points to cut the deficit to 24-23. However, Tampa's Nathaly Perez came up with a kill on the third game point to give the Spartans a 25-23 win.

In game three Bentley trailed 23-20 but ripped off four straight points to take a 24-23 lead. Tampa won the next point on a kill by Perez to tie it 24-24, and the Spartans won the next two points with JJ Ramirez serving.

In game four Tampa hit .360 as a team to clinch the match.

Bentley finishes the weekend with a 4-3 record. Their next matches are on Friday at the IVHOF East Region Clash in Springfield against Saint Anselm and Molloy.
