Burmester & Ambroult Post Winning Efforts at Brandeis

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Caitlin Burmester (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin HS) and junior Lucy Ambroult (Holbrook/Holbrook HS) posted first-place finishes to lead the Bentley University women's indoor track and field team Saturday during the Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandeis University's Gosman Sports and Convocation Center.

Burmester broke the tape in the 800 meter run with her 2:26.62 the best recorded in the Northeast-10 Conference thus far this season. She won the race by 4.5 seconds over runner-up Michaels Namiotka (Assumption). Her splits were 33.35, 36.26, 37.83 and 38.97, and she was second at each checkpoint before closing strong.

Ambroult set an indoor personal best in the long jump and moved to number two on Bentley's all-time list with a distance of 18 feet, 1.5 inches. It was the second best in the conference so far this year and her performance gave her a winning margin of 15 inches over Shaniece Nugent (Brandeis).

Earlier in the day, Ambroult was third in the 60 meter dash. She ran an 8.24 in the prelims and bettered that with an 8.08 in the finals.

Two Falcons scored in the shot put with seniors Savona Roberts (Bedford, N.H./Bedford HS)  and Anyfern Gonzalez (Salem/Salem HS) third and sixth, respectively. Roberts' throw of 33'0.5" moved her to sixth on Bentley's all-time list and Gonzalez 30'5.25" moved her to number 14 all-time.

Senior Hannah Greene (Weston, Conn./Weston HS) was fourth among 12 in the high jump, clearing 4'11.75".

Audrey Christo (Belmont/Belmont HS), another senior, just missed scoring as she was seventh among 26 runners in the mile (5:39.26).

In the team results, Bentley was sixth of 11 with 37 points. Merrimack College defeated Assumption for team honors, 104-76.

Next Sunday, Bentley will run in the Greater Boston Track Club Championships at Harvard.
