Davies, Chau & Wix Named Bentley Track Captains

WALTHAM, Mass. – Seniors Chase Davies (Marblehead/Marblehead HS), Joe Chau (Watertown/Watertown HS) and Joey Wix (Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial HS) will serve as captains of the 2021-22 Bentley University track and field teams, head coach Kevin Curtin announced.

Davies is coming off a standout 2021 outdoor season for the Falcons. She captured the Northeast-10 championship in the heptathlon with a school record 3,691 points and also broke the school record in the 100 meter hurdles at the same meet while finishing fourth in 15.26. Also the school record holder in the indoor 60 hurdles (9.21), Davies earned USTFCCCA Division II All-East honors in the heptathlon.

"Chase Davies will be a fine captain for us this year," said Curtin. "It could be because she was a transfer student herself but the feedback we received the most about Chase from her teammates was about the effort she made last year across both the women's and men's teams to make the newcomers to the team feel welcome. She's going to help to create a team environment  where people can excel."

Chau ranks tenth in program history in the discus with a throw of 125 feet, two inches, which was good for 11th place at the 2021 Northeast-10 outdoor championships.

At that same meet, Wix was ninth in the 400 meters (53.07) and was part of the Falcons' 4x400 relay team that placed fourth in 3:27.25. On the program's all-time outdoor list, he is part of a 4x400 relay team that ranks ninth with a 3:25.30.

"Both Joe and Joey help to set a standard of hard work and commitment," said Curtin. "We  have a large group of underclassmen on our sprint squad and they'll lead by example and show them what it takes to succeed at the collegiate level."

Bentley resumes its indoor schedule Saturday with the William Sutherland Invitational at Southern Connecticut State.
