Hurwitz & Davies Earn Gold during Northeast-10 Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Sydney Hurwitz (Newton/Newton North HS), in the 100 meter hurdles, and junior Chase Davies (Marblehead/Marblehead HS), in the heptathlon, led the Bentley University Falcons with gold-medal winning performances during the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Track and Field Championships Saturday at American International College.

Davies broke a seven-year-old school record in the heptathlon, formerly held by Tatiana Froelich, by 261 points with a score of 3,851 points. She finished first in both the 100 meter hurdles (15.73 seconds) and the 200 (27.15), and was third in the 800 (2:44.60) and long jump (15'9").

The school record in the 100 hurdles was broken twice during the meet with Hurwitz bettering her own mark of 15:45 with a 15.28 in the prelims and Davies improving on that with a 15.26 in the finals.  She finished fourth in the event and Hurwitz, with a 15.36, followed in sixth.

Bentley had two of the top three finishers in the long jump with Hurwitz taking first in 17 feet, 9.5 inches and freshman Lucy Ambroult (Holbrook/Holbrook HS) third in 17'2". Also in the long jump, freshman Angie Grabmeier (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) was tenth (15'7").

Fourth-place finishes were achieved by sophomore Hannah Greene (Weston, Conn./Weston HS) and junior Samantha Bilodeau (New Ipswich, N.H./Mascenic Reg. HS). Greene cleared 4'11.75" in the high jump and Bilodeau ran the 5,000 in 40:03.63.

In the triple jump, Grabmeier posted a distance of 35'1.75" to finish sixth among 18 competitors.

Sophomore Audrey Christo (Belmont/Belmont HS) scored in the 1,500, with her 5:04.96 bettering her PR by 10.08 seconds and good for eighth place.

In the 400 hurdles, senior Hayley Licata (Andover/Central Catholic HS) moved to tenth on Bentley's all-time list and placed ninth overall with a 1:13.11. Also climbing on the program's performance list was Ambroult in the 100, with her 12.94 elevating her to sixth and putting her ninth among 22.

In the 4x100 relay, Hurwitz, Greene, Ambroult and junior Toyosi Akindolie (Laurel, Md./ Reservoir HS) registered the fourth fastest time in program history, 50.39. They finished seventh overall.

As a team, Bentley amassed 50 points, its most since 2013, and finished ninth among 12 teams.

It was a tight team competition with only 13 points separating the top four. American International edged Stonehill, 114-112.
