Matuty Wins in Singles but Bentley Falls to New Haven

Waltham, Mass. – Sophomore Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) won in No. 1 singles but the Bentley women's tennis team was defeated by New Haven 6-1 in a Northeast-10 match on Wednesday.

Matuty defeated New Haven's Lilia Rodriguez in straight sets in the top singles match, 6-2, 6-4. But the Chargers won the other five singles matches to build upon the point they earned from the doubles portion of the match.

It was only the first defeat of the season for the Falcons, who had gotten off to a 2-0 start after wins last week over Saint Anselm and American International. The Chargers meanwhile, improved their record to 2-2 (2-2 NE10).

Bentley will look to get back in the win column on Thursday when they visit UMass-Dartmouth for a non-conference match, before Saturday's tilt at Saint Michael's.
