Hapkiewicz & Huminski Capture NE10’s Top Women’s Swimming Awards

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior Emma Hapkiewicz (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS) has been named the co-Women's Swimmer of the Year in the Northeast-10 Conference and her senior teammate, Mary Huminski (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS), was recognized as the NE10 Women's Diver of the Year for the third time.

In addition, Rick Danehy earned the Women's Diving Coach of the Year for the eighth time and freshman Carter Ferrara (Coto de Caza, Calif./Mater Dei HS) was the choice for NE10 Men's Swimming Rookie of the Year.

Hapkiewicz, who represented Bentley in the NCAA Division II championships for the second straight year, swept the distance freestyle races at the Northeast-10 Championships and was named the Women's Swimmer of the Meet. She broke her own school record in each event, posting times of 5:00.28 in the 500 yard freestyle, 10:15.02 in the 1,000 and 16:59.48 in the 1,650. Her performances in the latter two distances were also meet records.

Huminski, who was recently named a College Sports Communicators Division II third team Academic All-America, captured both the one-meter and three-meter diving events for the third time. Her winning score from the one-meter board was 435.80 points and she captured the three-meter title with a 414.24.

Danehy, Bentley's longtime diving coach, received his fourth consecutive NE10 Women's Diving Coach of the Year, not counting the 2020-21 season that was cancelled by the pandemic. This year, in addition to coaching Huminski, he coached Hilla Almog, who was second in the one-meter and third in the three-meter. Danehy has also been the NE10 Men's Diving Coach of the Year five times, most recently in 2019.

Ferrara, at the conference championships, helped Bentley to gold in the 200 free relay, with the time of 1:22.97 a school record, and silver in the 400 free relay. In individual events, his highest finish was sixth in the 50 free (21.27).

Both the Bentley men's and women's teams finished second in the Northeast-10 Championships after outstanding dual seasons (10-1 women, 10-0 men).
