Bentley Falls to SNHU in Regular Season Finale; Will Play Adelphi NE10 Playoffs

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Sydney O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) scored her 4th goal of the season, but Bentley fell to Southern New Hampshire 2-1 in the final match of the regular season on Wednesday. The Falcons had already clinched a spot in the Northeast-10 playoffs going into the match. They will be the No. 6 seed and will play at Adelphi in the first round on Sunday.

O'Connor scored in the 12th minute from a tight angle to give Bentley an early 1-0 lead. Jenna Hendriksen (Pembroke, Mass./Pembroke) threaded a pass down the left channel that O'Connor latched on to. She dribbled around in the penalty area and found herself on the left side at a tight angle. But that didn't discourage her as she fired a shot that got past SNHU keeper Hannah Rose for the goal on the near post.

The Penmen, who needed to win to get into the playoffs themselves, scored twice before halftime. Victoria Raulston scored in the 27th minute with a shot from eight yards after she received a cross from the right wing by Allison Beaumont.

The Penmen then went ahead in the 40th minute on a goal by Arianna Georgantas with a shot from close range inside the six-yard box.

Bentley's Brooke Jones (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) nearly scored the tying goal just seconds before halftime, but her long-range shot was denied by Rose.

In the 88th minute Liliana Silva (North Grafton, Mass./North Grafton) had a look at a shot for the tying goal from 20 yards, but her well-struck effort was punched over the bar by Rose.

Bentley finished the regular season with a 7-7-3 overall record and 5-6-1 in the NE10. They finished tied for 5th in the standings with Saint Anselm.
