WALTHAM, Mass. – Assumption's Rose Connolly scored once and added an assist to help the visiting Greyhounds to a 3-1 victory over the Bentley University women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon.
Connolly scored in the 34th minute off a deflection in the six yard box, off a free kick that was sent in from about 25 yards out by Morgan Paquin.
The Greyhounds made 2-0 in the 42 minute on Kate Carleson's third goal of the year after she finished off a run that begin near the halfway line and scored from 12 yards out to the near post.
Just over three minutes after halftime, Connolly helped set up a goal by Annie Irwin after she gained possession after a throw-in in Assumption's offensive end. She played a short pass to Irwin, who created shooting space for herself in the penalty area and scored from 10 yards.
Bentley cut into Assumption's lead with a goal by senior Brooke Jones (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) in the 85th minute with a penalty kick goal. After an Assumption hand ball, Jones drilled home the kick for her second goal of the year and seventh as a Falcon.
The result moved Assumption's record to 2-1-2 and 1-1-1 NE10, and the Falcons fell to 1-2-2 and 0-1 NE10.
The team's next game will be Senior Night, on the football field, against New Haven on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
