#18 Falcons Have Win Streak Snapped by New Haven, 14-13

WALTHAM, Mass. - In a back and forth game between teams that traditionally play close games, New Haven snapped #18 Bentley's six-game winning streak with a 14-13 victory on Saturday.

Prior to the game, the Falcons honored six student-athletes in its Class of 2024; Lindsay Dawsom, Stephanie McAuliffe, Maeve Johnson, Courtney Dermody, Caroline Affolter and Emma Jadul.

Saturday's game was the third since 2018 between Bentley and New Haven to be decided by one goal. The last six games have all been decided by four goals or less.

The Falcons trailed 13-10 in the 4th quarter after New Haven's Katie Schenk scored at the 10:29 mark.

But Bentley scored three of the game's next four goals to pull within one with just over three minutes remaining.

Maeve Johnson made it a 13-11 game with a goal at the 9:37 mark. The Chargers then responded with a goal by Ivanna Hernandez at 7:23 to restore its three goal lead.

Four minutes elapsed between goals, but Johnson then scored twice just 27 seconds apart to make it a 14-13 game. She scored on a free-position at 3:28, then scored unassisted at 3:01.

The Chargers though won the ensuing draw control, but a yellow card gave Bentley the ball back with 1:44 to play.

However the only shot Bentley had during that time was a free-position attempt, which was saved by Chargers goalie Gabby Buscemi, one of her 18 saves on the day.

New Haven then called timeout, and after a successful clear were able to run out the remaining clock.

Johnson had seven goals for the Falcons, her third game in the last four with at least six goals.
