No. 8 LIU Post Pulls Away from Bentley in 2nd Half, Takes 15-9 Win

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – No. 8 LIU Post used a decisive 6-1 run during a key 10 minute stretch in the second half to pull away from the Bentley women's lacrosse team for a 15-9 victory over the Falcons in a non-conference game on Thursday night.

Trailing 8-2 at halftime, Bentley started the second half on fire and outscored the Pioneers 5-1 during the opening 10 minutes of the half, including four goals in a row. Junior Erin O'Connor (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) had the first two goals, and a goal from senior Jackie Brown (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) got the Falcons to within 9-7 at the 19:44 mark. Carolyn Cruise (East Greenwich, R.I./East Greenwich) and Kelsey Howard (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) also had goals during the run.

But LIU turned the tables after Brown's goal, and they outscored Bentley 6-2 the remainder of the contest. Sophomore attack Stefani Vagelatos had the first two goals of the run to give LIU an 11-7 lead. Howard's second of three goals on the night brought Bentley to within 11-8 at the 12:35 mark, but the Pioneers then scored four unanswered, starting with another goal from Vagelatos, to take a 15-8 lead with 5:53 remaining.

Howard completed her hat trick with six seconds left, scoring off an assist from Hannah Lindgren (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin).

Brown scored two goals for Bentley in the first half.

The Falcons drop to 2-2 on the season, while LIU improves to 3-1. Bentley now returns north and is back in action on Saturday when they visit Northeast-10 rival Southern New Hampshire for a 2:00 pm game.
