Following Tough Week, No. 17 Bentley Seeks 20th Win Wednesday vs. St. Michael’s

WALTHAM, Mass. – After suffering back-to-back losses for the first time this season, the Bentley University women's basketball team will make its third attempt at earning win number 20 Wednesday night with a Northeast-10 Conference home game against St. Michael's College. As always, fans who can't attend can view the 5:30 pm game live on the NE10 NOW digital network.

The two teams were scheduled to meet on Tuesday, but the contest was delayed 24 hours due to the weather.

With the regular season down to its final five games, nothing has been determined at the top of the Northeast-10 standings. Bentley, number 17 in this week's WBCA Division II coaches poll, is locked in a three-way tie for the top spot with Southern New Hampshire and 15th-ranked Assumption University, all with 13-4 conference records after the Falcons lost to both clubs last week. Just a game back in fourth is Bentley's opponent on the road this coming Saturday, The College of Saint Rose.

Both SNHU and Assumption are on the road Wednesday, playing at American International and Pace, respectively.

Bentley, whose all-time resume includes 35 20-win seasons, will bring a 19-4 overall record into Wednesday's encounter with the Purple Knights. The two teams met last month up in the Green Mountain State with the Falcons prevailing by 24, 72-48.

Three-pointers were uncharacteristically a problem for coach C White's team in Saturday's 66-47 loss at Assumption. Bentley connected on only two of 16 from deep while the Greyhounds sank eight of 12. Despite that, the Falcons are still number one in the conference in three-pointers made and three-point percentage, as well as second in defending the three.

The Bentley offense, which ranks number two in the NE10, is led by senior forward Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) and graduate guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS), both of whom earned All-Conference recognition last year. Whitmore produces 12.9 points a game and Thompson, the NE10 leader in three-pointers made (51), follows at 11.1.

Junior forward Kylie DuCharme (Wilmington/Wilmington HS) has climbed to fifth in the NE10 in rebounds (8.5) and also scores 10.7 a game.

Completing the usual starting unit for the Falcons are junior guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) and sophomore guard Cassidy Yeomans (Marion/Tabor Academy).

St. Michael's will come into the game with records of 5-18 overall and 1-16 NE10. Since earning a 62-59 win over Adelphi Jan. 20, the Purple Knights have been limited to 41 points a game over their last six.

The top scorer for coach Shannon Bollhardt is freshman guard Amber Furch, who joined her older sister Brianna on the team this season. Amber averages 9.8 points and Brianna produces 4,7 a game.

In the first meeting of the two teams this season, Bentley's top scorers were freshman guard Niya Morgen (Swampscott/St. Mary's HS) with 15, Whitmore with 14 and Yeomans with a dozen. Junior guard Molly Brophy had 13 off the bench for the Purple Knights. That was the Falcons' 73rd win in 77 all-time meetings with St. Michael's.
