After Stretching Win Streak to 10, No. 8 Bentley Back at Home to Face Adelphi

WALTHAM, Mass. – In action for the fourth time in eight days, the Bentley University women's basketball team will be back on Barbara Stevens Court Saturday afternoon for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Adelphi University. The 1:30 pm contest will follow a celebration of a celebration of Bentley's undefeated 2014 NCAA Division II national championship team at 1:15 pm.

Bentley, coming off a 67-57 win at Pace University Saturday in which the Falcons broke the school record for three-point percentage by hitting 11 of 15, has won ten straight overall and its last dozen conference games. Coach C White's team, 18-2 overall and 13-2 NE10, leads the conference by two games and is ranked number eight nationally.

Adelphi's last win, against District of Columbia, came on the same day as the Falcons' last loss, December 18. Since then, the Panthers have lost 11 in a row to fall to 4-16 overall and 2-12 in conference play.

Bentley is listed in the top ten in Division II in several statistical categories, including fourth in fewest points allowed, seventh in three-point percentage defense, seventh in fewest turnovers and tenth in fewest fouls.

The Falcons are also fourth in D2 in three-point shooting at .383, with their .733 from deep at Pace matching the best nationally this season. Freshman guard and four-time NE10 Rookie of the Week Niya Morgen (Swampscott/St. Mary's HS) has a .563 accuracy rate from deep, senior captains Brooke Obar (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely HS) and Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) are both at .420 or better, and graduate captain Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) has made more treys than any player in the conference, 48. That includes 12 of 20 during the recently completed stretch of three straight away from Waltham.

Whitmore leads the Falcons in scoring at 13.3 and Thompson follows at 11.1. Junior forward Kylie DuCharme (Wilmington/Wilmington HS) rounds out the top three at 10.1 and has had seven games with double-figure rebounds.

Those three are joined in the usual starting five by junior guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) and sophomore guard Cassidy Yeomans (Marion/Tabor Academy). Kabantu has started 57 straight games and Yeomans has gotten the call in 28 straight.

Adelphi is led by six-one grad student Jenna Jordan and junior guard Rolanda Robinson. Jordan averages 14.7 points and 8,3 rebounds, and Robinson follows at 12.2 and 5.3. Jordan is a force on the offensive boards with her 74 second most in the conference.

The Panthers, 1-6 away from Garden City this season, average 57.9 points and allow 61.9 a game. They are among the conference leaders in the hustle categories, ranking third in blocks, steals and offensive rebounds.

Back on Dec. 2 on Long Island, Bentley defeated Adelphi 59-42 on the strength of six three-pointers by Obar and a 17-point, 14-rebound double-double by DuCharme. The Panthers' 42 points was a season low and included only 18 points from outside the paint.

Bentley is 15-9 all-time against Adelphi, including five wins in the last seven meetings. Both losses during that stretch came in Waltham, 59-57 last season and 85-70 in 2020.

The Falcons will also be home on Wednesday with one of the NE10's second-place teams, Southern New Hampshire, providing the opposition.
