No. 11 Bentley Begins Stretch of 3 Straight on the Road Saturday at New Haven

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University women's basketball team, an impressive 23-3 since mid-February last season, will look to continue its road success with three games in three different states in a span of six days, beginning Saturday at the University of New Haven (1:30 pm, NE10NOW.tv).

The Falcons, 7-1 away from Waltham so far this season, will also visit Saint Anselm (Jan. 30) and Pace (Feb. 1) before its next contest on Barbara Stevens Court (Feb. 3 vs. Adelphi).

Bentley, number 11 in the latest WBCA Division II coaches poll, will go on the road with records of 15-2 overall and 10-1 NE10. After avenging the team's only conference loss of the season on Wednesday by defeating American International 67-50), coach C White's team leads the NE10 by two games in the loss column and 1.5 games overall.

New Haven has dropped five of its last six to fall to 6-10 overall and 2-10 in conference play. In the Chargers' last two contests, they've been limited to 37 points by Saint Rose and 44 by Pace.

In Wednesday's game, the Falcons broke open a close game with a 17-2 run over the final six minutes. AIC was held scoreless on its last nine possessions and became the eighth team this season to score 50 or less against a Bentley defense that ranks seventh best in Division II.

Senior forward Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS), Bentley's top scorer against AIC with her 18 including 12 of 14 from the foul line, leads the Falcons with 13.1 points per game. Over the last three games, she's bumped her production to 14.3 points and ten rebounds.

Bentley has a total of four players who are averaging in double figures with Whitmore joined by graduate guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS), freshman guard Niya Morgen (Swampscott/St. Mary's HS) and junior forward Kylie DuCharme (Wilmington/Wilmington HS). Thompson, eight points away from 1,100 career, is second at 10.6. Morgen, who has scored at least 15 off the bench six times, is at 10.1, and DuCharme, Bentley's top rebounder, is also at 10.1.

Remarkably, Bentley has scored its opponents by 240 points from beyond the three-point line this season, making 133 while only yielding 53. The Falcons are seventh in Division II in three-point accuracy and second in three-point percentage defense.

New Haven features a pair of six-foot-one players, senior post Aurora DeShaies and sophomore Lindsay Hogan. DeShaies, who had 18 rebounds at Pace Wednesday and has 930 for her career, leads the Chargers with averages of 11.9 points and 10.6 rebounds. Last year, she earned second-team All-NE10 honors. Hogan, the team-leader in threes (28), follows with a 10.8 scoring norm.

Rebounding is a strength for New Haven with the Chargers first in the conference in offensive boards and third in rebound margin (+5.1). They are also fifth in NE10 and 11th nationally in scoring defense at 54.3.

These two teams will be meeting for the second time this season with the Falcons looking to complete the sweep after a 59-48 win back on Nov. 16. Bentley outscored the Chargers 13-2 at the foul line and had the rebound advantage, 37-33.

Bentley leads the series 32-6 after winning seven of the last nine.

The Pace game, postponed a week ago, has been rescheduled for Thursday Feb. 1. It will be a rare 1:30 pm weekday start.
