No. 18 Bentley Heads to St. Michael’s Wednesday with Conference-Best 11-2 Record

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University women's basketball team, co-leaders in the Northeast-10 Conference, will be looking for its fourth win in eight days Wednesday when it will be in Colchester, Vt. to take on St. Michael's College. The 5:30 pm game will be streamed over the NE10 NOW Digital Network.

Bentley, whose 11-2 overall record is an NE10-best, finished a five-game homestand Monday with a come-from-behind 67-58 non-conference win over The College of Staten Island. That followed wins over two of the NE10's top teams, 9-3 Assumption University and 9-2 College of Saint Rose.

St. Michael's is at the opposite end of the conference standings with records of 4-9 overall and 0-7 NE10. The Purple Knights have dropped three in a row, a stretch in which they've averaged 46.3 points, since posting a 67-62 win over Caldwell University Dec. 18.

In Monday's win over CSI, Bentley finished with a 13-4 surge after the game was deadlocked at 54. Junior forward Kylie DuCharme (Wilmington/Wilmington HS) turned in her best performance as a collegian with a career-high 21 points, 10 rebounds (eight offensive) and four steals.

For the season, DuCharme is averaging 9.4 points and a team-best 8.5 rebounds.

Bentley's top scorers are senior forward Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) and graduate guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS). Whitmore averages 12.7 points and 5.8 rebounds, and Thompson follows at 12.0. She leads the conference in three-pointers (29) and is fifth in assists (44).

Freshman guard Niya Morgen (Swampscott/St. Mary's HS), the NE10 Rookie of the Week for the second time, has averaged 12.7 points in her last three games while draining seven of ten three-pointers.

Bentley, number two in the NE10 in scoring defense, has yielded only 50.3 a game over the last seven. The Falcons lead the conference in threes and have outscored their opponents by 189 points this season from outside the arc.

Freshman guard Amber Furch and senior forward Makayla Blake are St. Michael's top scorers. Furch, whose sister Brianna is also on the team, averages 10.0 points and is the team's primary three-point threat (26 of 65, .400). Blake follows at 9.5 a game.

Bentley leads the all-time series 72-4 and has a 14-game winning streak against the Purple Knights. Both of last year's games were very low scoring with the Falcons prevailing 52-27 during the regular season and 59-39 in the NE10 quarterfinals.

Following the trip to Vermont, Bentley will take on Franklin Pierce University Saturday at home.
