No. 22 Bentley Wraps Up Homestand Monday vs. Staten Island

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University women's basketball team will close out its five-game homestand and complete the non-conference portion of its schedule Monday when the Falcons take on the College of Staten Island at 5 pm on Barbara Stevens Court.

As always, the game will be streamed live on the NE10 NOW Digital Network for those who can't make it to the Dana Center.

Bentley, coming off impressive wins over Assumption University (78-68) and The College of Saint Rose (57-32), is 10-2 overall and was ranked 22nd in last week's WBCA Division II coaches poll.

Staten Island, a first-time opponent for the Falcons, will be looking to end a six-game slide. The Dolphins, who had a four-game winning streak in late November and early December, are 5-8 overall, including 1-4 on the road.

Bentley's defense was outstanding for most of Saturday's win over Saint Rose. The Golden Knights had 19 points in the game's first 12:10 but managed only 13 the rest of the way. During that span, Bentley allowed only five baskets in 37 attempts and forced eight turnovers.

Meanwhile, coach C White's team made 10 three-pointers against a Saint Rose defense that led Division II in fewest points allowed and limited the opposition to four three-pointers a game. Bentley, co-leaders in the Northeast-10, leads the conference in all the three-point categories, sinking nearly eight a game with a .361 accuracy rate.

Graduate guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) is third in the NE10 in triples made (27), freshman guard Niya Morgen (Swampscott/St. Mary's HS) is first in accuracy (14/28, .500) and senior forward Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) is fourth in that category (13/30, .433).

Whitmore tops the team's scoring list with a 12.5 average and Thompson follows at 12.3. Thompson, who passed her coach in career 3's earlier this season, moved ahead of White in career points with a 16-point performance against Saint Rose. She's currently 33rd on the all-time list with 1,060, four more than White amassed from 1997-2001.

Morgen, second in the NE10 in field goal percentage, averaged 16 points in the two games this week and elevated her season norm to 9.8.

Bentley has been one of the conference's top rebounding teams with a margin of plus-5.3. Leading the Falcons on the boards has been junior forward Kylie DuCharme (Wilmington/Wilmington HS) with 8.3 a game. She's sixth in both average and offensive rebounds.

Junior guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) had a strong overall game against Saint Rose with nine points, a career-high ten rebounds and three assists.

Staten Island has a balanced offense with four players netting between 9 and 11 points a game. Heading the list is sophomore guard Dana Phelan, the squad's top threat from three (36 made, .400 accuracy).

Turnovers have been much more prevalent in the Staten Island games than they are in Bentley contests. Bentley averages and forces about 13.5 a game while CSI  and their opponents commit about 18.5 a game.

Staten Island will be the first of three games for White and her team this week. The Falcons will be at St. Michael's Wednesday and back home against Franklin Pierce Saturday.
