Bentley Hosts Holy Family Monday in Match-Up of 1-Loss Teams

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University Falcons and the Holy Family University Tigers, two of the seven NCAA Division II East Region teams with one loss, will meet up late Monday afternoon on the Dana Center's Barbara Stevens Court.

Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 pm and the non-conference encounter will be streamed over the NE10 NOW digital network.

Bentley, number 14 in latest WBCA Division II coaches poll, will bring an 8-1 record into its final game of the calendar year. The Falcons defeated Molloy Saturday to extend their winning streak to four and are 16-2 in their last 18 games, dating back to last season.

Holy Family has won ten in a row, including 75-57 at Dominican (N.Y.) on Saturday, since a season-opening 64-51 loss to Franklin Pierce.

Both teams began the weekend ranked among the top five in the East Region in scoring offense, scoring defense, rebound margin. The Falcons have held four teams to 50 or less and the Tigers have done it five times. Holy Family, out of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, has the slight advantage in scoring offense (68.5-66.2) and scoring defense (52.9-53.8).

Saturday's 55-47 win over Molloy saw all seven Falcons who saw action score, rebound and assist. Senior forward Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) came off the bench for the second straight game and she responded with 16 points, six rebounds, a trio of three-pointers, two assists and two steals. Junior guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) added a season-high 13 points, including 11 in the first half.

Whitmore's 12.1 season average is second on the team, trailing the 12.4 of graduate guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS).

Both teams spread the scoring out. Bentley has eight players who average at least 5.3 points and has had five earn game-high scoring honors. Holy Family also has eight contributing at least five points a game. Nine have been team-high scorers, including senior guard Jenn Kokolus with 11 in the Dominican win Saturday.

Sophomore guard Taylor Hinkle leads the team with averages of 10.9 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks, and Skyler Searfoss, also a sophomore guard, follows at 10.5 points and 5.8 boards.

The two times have met 15 times previously with Bentley owning a 15-3 advantage, but Holy Family gained the win when the two teams  met last December in Philadelphia, 77-70. Searfoss led the way in that one with 26, and Whitmore tallied 16 for the Falcons.

After the break, Bentley will continue its five-game homestand Jan. 3 against defending East Region champion Assumption University.
