18th-Ranked Bentley Visits AIC Tuesday, Looking to Stay Unbeaten

WALTHAM, Mass. – Off to a 4-0 start, the Bentley University women's basketball team will look to stay unbeaten when it plays at American International College Tuesday afternoon. Tip-off at Butova Gym is scheduled for 4:30 pm and fans not in Springfield can view all the action on the NE10 NOW Digital Network.

Bentley, 12-1 in its last 13 games dating back to last season, earned its most recent victory Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas, 67-50 in non-conference action. Tuesday's game with the Yellow Jackets will mark the fourth time in five games this season that Coach C White's team will be playing away from home.

In each of the first four wins, a different player has been Bentley's top scorer. Senior guard Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) scored 22 against Daemen, junior forward Kylie Ducharme (Wilmington/Wilmington HS) had 18 at Roberts Wesleyan, sophomore post Ciara Norman (Roebling, N.J./Life Center Academy) led a balanced attack against New Haven with 13, and graduate guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) tallied 18 at STAC.

Thompson, 33 shy of the 1,000-point mark for her career, leads Bentley with a 13.8 scoring average and ten three-pointers. Five of those came in the most recent contest for the team that was ranked 18th in the preseason WBCA Division II coaches poll.

Whitmore averages 12.3 points and freshman guard Niya Morgen (Swampscott/St. Mary's HS), this week's NE10 Rookie of the Week, provides 11.3 a game off the bench.

Bentley has outscored its opponents by 19.5 a game with shooting defense numbers of .373 overall and .294 from three.

After wins over St. Thomas Aquinas and D'Youville, AIC incurred its first loss of the season last Wednesday, 63-58 at Adelphi. In the first three, the 2-1 Yellow Jackets averaged 69.7 points and allowed 67.3.

Four players are scoring at least 12 a game, with Felician transfer and senior guard Briana Lee at the top of the list. Owner of 1,431 career points, she has scored 11, 25 and 18 points in her first three games in an AIC uniform. Over the last two games, she's made 19 of 33 field goal attempts.

Graduate guard Kayla Robinson is next with averages of 14.3 points and five assists. Last year when she led the conference in steals, Robinson earned third-team All-Northeast-10 and first-team All-Defensive honors.

Bentley, 70-11 all-time in the series, has won ten straight against AIC. Last year's games were both decided by at least 20, 64-42 and 72-51.

The Falcons are off this coming weekend and will be back in action Nov. 29 with a home game against Saint Anselm.
