An outstanding season for the Bentley University women’s basketball team came to an end Saturday evening on Barbara Stevens Court when the Falcons ran into a first-quarter buzzsaw and fell to Jefferson University, 68-50, in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball East Regional.

Graduate guard Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Cedar Grove HS) scored 21 points, senior forward Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) followed with 17 and the two first-team All-Northeast-10 performers combined to make eight of 11 three-pointers as top-seeded Bentley University posted a 63-50 first-round win over Mercy University in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball East Regional on the Dana Center’s Barbara Stevens Court Friday evening.

For the first time since 2016, the Dana Center’s Barbara Stevens Court at Bentley University will be the site for the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball East Regional with action getting underway with four games Friday and continuing with two on Saturday evening and the regional final Monday at 7 pm.
