Bentley Visits Franklin Pierce Saturday, Looking for 4th Win in 5 Games This Month

WALTHAM, Mass. – Following a 67-32 win over Saint Rose on Wednesday, the Bentley University women's basketball team will be at Franklin Pierce University Saturday looking for its fourth victory in five games this month.

The 1:30 game from the FPU Field House in Rindge, N.H. can be seen over the NE10 NOW digital network.

Bentley will enter the penultimate game of the regular season in fourth place in the Northeast-10, two games back of both Assumption and Southern New Hampshire and one in front of both New Haven and Southern Connecticut. In order to avoid having to play a first-round playoff game next Friday, the Falcons will have to win out and either Assumption or SNHU will have to lose their last two.

Franklin Pierce, after falling at Southern Connecticut State  62-40 on Wednesday, is 8-17 overall and 4-14 Northeast-10. Following a 5-6 start to the season, the Ravens have won only three times since mid-December.

Coach C White's Falcons have kept their opponents under 50 ten times this season, including Wednesday when they more than doubled Saint Rose, 67-32. Following that effort, Bentley ranks third in Division II in three-point percentage defense (.247) and ninth in scoring defense (54.2).

The top scorers for the Falcons have been junior forward Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) and senior guard Ella Thompson (Greenville, Ind./Center Grove HS), a duo who combined for 29 points in the win over Saint Rose.

Whitmore, whose free throw percentage of .935 would be the best nationally in Division II if she had enough made to qualify, continues to lead Bentley in almost every category, including scoring (12.5), rebounds (6.9), assists (58), steals (31) and blocks (10).

Thompson, who surpassed 800 career points in Wednesday's game, averages 10.2 points and has buried 12 of 25 three-pointers in the last four games.

In the Saint Rose, freshman guard Cassidy Yeomans (Marion/Tabor Academy) made her first career start and responded by setting career-bests with 12 points and six assists. She's second in the conference in three-point accuracy, having made 46 percent of her attempts from downtown, 24 of 52.

Sophomore guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS) had her second straight game with ten points against Saint Rose and also grabbed a season-best eight rebounds. Her season scoring mark stands at 6.3.

Franklin Pierce features junior guard Ines Gimenez-Monserrat, whose 15.5 scoring average is seventh best in the Northeast-10. She's led the Ravens in scoring 13 times, with a high of 34 against St. Michael's earlier this month.

The Ravens are 11th in the conference in both scoring and scoring defense this season. A strength for Franklin Pierce is their foul shooting with their .773 second best in the NE10.

Bentley and Franklin Pierce previously met in Waltham on New Year's Day with the Falcons putting up their second highest point total of the season in an 86-50 win. Graduate guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wisc./Appleton North HS) had the hot hand as she made six of eight three-pointers for 20 points.  The Falcons shot 54 percent overall, made 11 of 20 from deep and hit all but one of 12 free throws.

Bentley is 41-10 all-time against Franklin Pierce, including 11 wins in the last 12 meetings.

The final regular season game will be Tuesday with the Falcons taking on American International at home.
