Bentley Women’s Basketball Returns to Action Thursday at Molloy

WALTHAM, mass. – Following a ten-day break, the Bentley University women's basketball team will return to action Thursday when the Falcons take on Molloy College in the final non-conference game of the regular season. Tip-off at the Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. is set for 2 pm and fans can watch at https://molloylions.com/sports/2017/6/7/lions-sports-network.

Bentley, which will be on the road for the ninth time in 11 games this season, will be looking to halt a two-game slide. The Falcons slipped to 6-4 overall with losses to Adelphi and Holy Family in their most recent two games.

The Molloy Lions are 3-8 this season but are coming off a 64-44 win over Roberts Wesleyan Dec. 17. Coach Joe Pellicane's team has played only one Northeast-10 team this season, a 66-55 road loss to Adelphi two weeks ago.

The offense has been spread around for coach C White's Falcons with three players owning double-digit scoring averages. Junior forward Maggie Whitmore (South Portland, Maine/South Portland HS) has elevated her production to 11 points per game after contributing 15 and 16 points in the last two games. Her 16 last time out against Holy Family equaled her career high. She also leads the team in rebounds (7.0), assists (3.0) and steals (13).

Also in doubles are the backcourt of grad student Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North HS) and senior Ella Thompson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS). Brekke, a 44 percent shooter from three, is at 10.6 points and Thompson follows at 10.2

The usual starting five for Bentley also includes senior post Bri Gillen (Lakeville/Bishop Feehan HS) and sophomore guard Amanda Kabantu (Portland, Maine/Portland HS). Gillen scores 5.5 a game and Kabantu is at 6.7.

Bentley, which scores 65.9 a game and gives up an average of 60.2, is second in the conference in fewest turnovers and in defending the three.

The highest scoring average going into Thursday's game belongs to Molloy six-foot junior Trinity Hudson, who averages 11.7 points, nine rebounds and 1.9 steals.  She hasn't shot well this season but netted 22 on 9-of-13 from the field against Dominican.

Graduate guard Gianni Domond, a transfer from St. Thomas (Fla.) who earned All-Sunshine State honors two years ago, is second in each of those statistical categories as she produces 8.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals a game.

Molloy averages 50.2 points a game and allows 60.3.

The all-time Falcon-Lion series stands even at two games apiece. Molloy prevailed in the most recent, 64-52, in November 2019 despite 20 points from former Falcon center Monica Viapiano.

Bentley will be back at home on New Year's Day with Franklin Pierce paying a visit to the Dana Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 pm.
