Bentley Closes Out Regular Season with Sweep of AIC, 4-0 and 4-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Bentley closed out the regular season with a sweep of AIC on Saturday by scores of 4-0 and 4-1. They will go into the NE10 playoffs with four straight wins and a conference record of 12-10.

The Falcons will be the 7th seed in the playoffs and will face the 6th seed Saint Anselm on the road on Tuesday.

 

Bentley 4, AIC 0

Riley Piromalli twirled a three-hit shutout with six strikeouts to lead the Falcons to a game one win. It was her 15th complete game, 11th win and third shutout of the season.

Gabby Longo went 3-4 and Katie Welch had two RBI. Jess Morrison knocked in a run as well.

Longo put the Falcons in front 1-0 in the top of the 2nd with a single to center that scored Welch.

In the top of the 6th, Welch singled to center to score both Jacqueline Cupoli and Breelin McDougal to make it 3-0.

Two batters later, Morrison's single to left scored Welch for a 4-0 lead.

Piromalli then retired the Yellow Jackets in order in the bottom of the 7th to finish off the shutout.

 

Bentley 4, AIC 1

Cupoli and Morgan Fraitzl each drove in two runs as the Falcons completed the sweep.

Payton Doiron pitched 4.1 innings of one run ball and struck out six to earn her eighth win of the year. Piromalli pitched the final 2.2 innings to earn her fourth save of the year.

Fraitzl gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead in the top of the 4th with a double down the left field line that scored Jordan Krause and Longo.

The next batter Sabrina Grizzaffi then reached, stole second base and came home when Cupoli singled to left to make the score 3-0.

In the top of the 6th, Cupoli walked with the bases loaded to make it 4-1.
