Doiron, Hillier & Petow Earn Academic All-Northeast-10 Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – Catcher Ella Hillier (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin HS), pitcher Payton Doiron (Beacon Falls, Conn./St. Joseph HS) and center fielder Sam Petow (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury HS), a trio who led the Bentley University softball team to a school-record win total and the first NCAA Division II tournament berth in program history, have earned Academic All-Northeast-10 honors.

Bentley, which finished at 30-16-1 overall, was the only team in the conference to have more than two players selected for Academic All-NE10 honors in softball.

Hillier, a graduate student during the 2023 season while pursuing her MBA, had the best offensive season of her career. The second-team All-Northeast-10 selection hit .349 with 52 hits, 31 runs scored, 27 RBI and a .430 slugging percentage.

On Bentley's all-time career list, Hillier finished first in games (170), at bats (537), runs (100), doubles (40), RBI (89) and extra base hits (49). The five-year starter is also number two in career hits (162) and total bases (223). An Academic All-Northeast-10 honoree for the second time, Hillier was the recipient of the 2023 Edward J. Powers Scholar-Athlete Award and finished her college career with a 3.9 grade point average.

Doiron, a first-team All-Conference pick, had the best pitching season in Bentley history with her 17 wins and 186 strikeouts both school records. The right-hander had a 1.83 ERA, limited opposing hitters to a .216 average and was 12-2 in conference play.

Owner of a 3.72 GPA while majoring in both economics-finance and liberal studies, Doiron pitched a no-hitter against Saint Rose and struck out a school-record 16 in a 10-inning shutout against Southern Connecticut. She'll enter her senior season next year as Bentley's career leader in strikeouts with 293.

Petow, the Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year and a third-team All-Conference honoree, hit .323 with 51 hits and 35 runs scored, fourth most in program history. Defensively, she tracked down 67 balls in center and also had four assists.

Petow, who reached base 41 percent of the time when leading off innings, recently graduated magna cum laude after majoring in professional sales.
