Matjucha and 400 Free Relay Win Medals as Bentley Finishes in Second at NE10 Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – The final day of competition at the Northeast 10 Men's Swimming and Diving Championships saw the Falcons finish in second place as a team. Andrew Matjucha won his third individual medal with silver in the 1650 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay team claimed bronze.

Over the four days of competition the Falcons amassed 673 points as a team to take second place. Southern Connecticut finished in first with 901 points.

Matjucha finished the 1650 with a time of 16:25.77. He previously earned individual medals with bronze in the 1000 free on Thursday and bronze in the 500 free on Friday. It's the second straight year he's the silver medalist in the 1650 at the NE10s.

Leighton Wielgoszinski swam a strong race in the 1650 and finished 4th at 16:40.85.

The 400 free relay was the final event of the meet and the Falcons capped it with a bronze medal. Danny Lehr swam the leadoff leg in 47.36, followed by Carter Ferrara in the second leg, Tyler Marzano in the 3rd leg and Daniel Ivanchickov the anchor leg.

The team's time of 3:07.48 saw them finish .08 seconds ahead of Saint Rose for bronze and less than two seconds behind Southern Connecticut for second place.

The first individual finals of the evening session were the 200 backstroke. Griffin Keiliher was Bentley's top finisher in 7th with a personal best time of 1:58.30. Eddy Erofeyev also posted a personal best at 1:58.79 and was 9th.

The 100 free finals saw Ferrara finish 5th at 47.10 and just miss out on the podium by less than 1 second. Tyler Marzano and Jakuk Zukowski also qualified for the finals with Marzano in 10th and Zukowski in 12th.

Kenneth Ryu earned a top-five finish in the 200 breaststroke finals with a personal best time of 2:11.72. Patrick Tarka also swam a personal best in the finals at 2:15.91.

The 200 fly finals saw Joey Twomey finish 7th at 1:59.17 and Ivanchickov 9th 1:59.00.

Overall the Falcons won nine medals during the meet. Five were individual medals and four were relay medals.
