Bentley Swimming & Diving Teams Launch Season Friday vs. Wheaton

WALTHAM, Mass. – The 2022-23 Bentley University swimming and diving teams will open their season Friday at 5 pm by hosting Wheaton College at the Dana Center. For those who can't attend, the meet will be streamed on the NE10 NOW digital network (NE10NOW.tv).

Both Bentley teams have a number of standout performers back from last year's editions, both of which finished second in the Northeast-10 Championships.

On the women's side, returning Northeast-10 individual champions include senior Kate Galvin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern HS), junior Emma Hapkiewicz (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor HS), senior Mary Huminski (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) and sophomore Jordan Nuzback (Fairview, Pa./McDowell HS).

Galvin swept the three shortest freestyle events at the NE10's last February and Hapkiewicz took the two longest, the 1000 and 1650. Huminski, twice the NE10 Women's Diver of the Year, repeated as one- and three-meter diving champion and Nuzback, as a freshman, captured the 200 individual medley.

The Bentley men, who were 7-0 last season and have won 47 of their last 48 dual meets, return Northeast-10 champions Andrew Matjucha (Randolph, N.J./Randolph HS) and Anthony Vizental (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley HS).

Matjucha was the conference best in the 500, 1000 and 1650 yard freestyle events while Vizental captured gold in both the 200 butterfly and the 200 individual medley.

Returning school record holders in individual events include Galvin (50 free, 100 free), Hapkiewicz (500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free), Vizental (200 fly) and senior Tanner Eisenhut (Jamesville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius HS) (200 breast).

Among the freshman who head coach Mary Kay Samko will be counting on for contributions are Leighton Wielgoszinski (Madison, Ind./Madison Consolidated HS) and Carter Ferrara (Cota de Caza, Calif./Mater Dei HS) for the men and Taylor White (Warwick, Bermuda) and Grace Motisi (Ellington, Conn./Ellington HS) for the women.

Wielgoszinski will add depth in the distance events and the 200 fly while Ferrara will be a strong addition to the sprinters. While's backstroke and freestyle talents will add depth to the relays, and Motisi, like her brother Michael, is capable of contributing in almost any event.

Last year against Wheaton, the Bentley men won 219-77 while the women suffered a rare loss, 183-118.
