Huminski, Blatt & Papsco Lead Bentley During Day 2 of Gompei Invitational

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Mary Huminski (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS), sophomore Emily Blatt (Westford/Westford Academy) and senior Zach Papsco (Northport, N.Y./Northport HS) led the Bentley University men's and women's swimming and diving teams during day two of the Gompei Invitational at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Huminski made it two-for-two in diving as she took first in the one-meter competition after doing the same in the three-meter on Friday. With a score of 419.90, she finished 25 points ahead of Bryant University's Sydney Barrett and 26.65 in front of freshman teammate Hilla Almog (Wayland/Wayland HS). Both Falcon divers met the NCAA Division II qualifying standard in the event.

Blatt was the runner-up in the 100 yard breaststroke with her 1:07.15 putting her to the wall 1:26 seconds after WPI's Katherine Pawlak. She was also part of the Falcons' 400 medley relay team that was third in 3:58.78. Senior Lucy Slowe (Millis/Millis HS) led off while the final two legs were swum by freshman Jordan Nuzback (Fairview, Pa./McDowell HS) and junior Kate Galvin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern HS).

Papsco was fourth in the 100 breast (57.70) and part of two relays that finished in the top seven. In the 200 free relay, he teamed with classmate Mark Zoda (Nashua, N.H./Nashua North HS) and a pair of juniors, Ryan Looney (Wilton, Conn./Wilton HS) and Riley Lambert (Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey HS), to finish fourth in 1:25.30.

Papsco and Zoda were also part of Bentley's 400 medley relay team that was seventh in 3:30.68. That quartet also included senior Oscar Chang (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills HS West) and junior Anthony Vizental (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley HS).

Other fourth-place finishes for Bentley were achieved by Zoda in the 200 free (1:43.03), Chang in the 50 back (24.34) and the women's 200 free relay team of Slowe, junior Marissa Adamo (Hackettstown, N.J./Mount Olive HS), grad student Hanna Ryan (North Royalton, Ohio/Brecksville Broadview Heights HS) and junior Kate Galvin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern HS).

Other top ten performances for the Falcon women included Galvin sixth in the 50 butterfly (26.70), senior Rona Mejiritski (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) seventh in the 400 individual medley (4:47.67) and junior Jennifer Chen (Darien, Conn./Darien HS) ninth in the 400 IM (4:51.31).

For the men, Vizental was seventh in the 400 IM (4:16.58), Looney tied for eighth in the 50 back (26.10), junior Tanner Eisenhut (Jamesville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius HS), was eighth in the 100 breast (59.06) and sophomore Sergio Torres (Guaynabo, P.R./Commonwealth-Parkville School) was tenth in the 50 back (26.84).

Bentley was also fifth in both mixed relay events, the 200 free and the 400 medley. The free relay team of Zoda, Galvin, Slowe and Looney finished in 1:31.51 and the 400 medley time of 3:48.19 was achieved by Chang, Chen, Nuzback and Slowe.

Bentley finished the middle day of the three-day meet in sixth place, among nine teams, with 2,829 points. The top three are Bryant (5,436), WPI (4,146.5) and Rowan College (3,754).

Sunday's action will get underway at 9 am.
