WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley men's soccer team scored a 2-1 Senior Night victory over Saint Anselm behind goals from Yusuf Baig (Madison, Ga.) and sophomore Grant Larson (Camarillo, Calif./Crespi Carmelite).
Saint Anselm led 1-0 after a 23rd minute goal by Taylor Silverstein, but the Falcons fought back to earn the win and improve to 2-2-1 in Northeast-10 matches.
Baig, a defender and transfer from Georgia Southern, scored his first goal as a Falcon just over four minutes after Silverstein's goal. A cross was sent in from the right that graduate student co-captain Ronan Fitzpatrick (Coventry, Conn./East Catholic) got his head on inside the six-yard box. That created a deflection, and Baig was in the right place to knock in the loose ball for the goal.
The score stayed 1-1 until Larson's first goal as a Falcon in the 66th minute gave his team the lead. The goal came on a 10-yard shot, following a throw-in, with sophomore Luke Hanchar (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown) on the assist.
Bentley then was able to see out the remaining 24 minutes as they limited Saint Anslem to just two shots the rest of the way.
The Falcons will be back in action next Saturday night at Southern New Hampshire.
