Fraser Scores but Bentley Falls to Stonehill 2-1

EASTON, Mass. – Freshman Johann Fraser (Cambridge, Mass./Cambridge Rindge & Latin) scored his first career goal in the 56th minute, but the Bentley men's soccer team fell to Northeast-10 rival Stonehill on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 2-1.

The Falcons outshot the Skyhawks 19-8 on the day and had seven shots on goal to just three for the hosts. But Stonehill keeper Andrew Hammersley had a big game with six saves.

Stonehill, now unbeaten in its last three matches, led 2-0 at halftime on the strength of first half goals by midfielder Iago Luiz De Sousa-Vieira in the 27th minute and forward Colby Meyer in the 39th minute.

The Falcons though cut the lead in half when Fraser scored in the 56th minute. The goal came off a corner kick, delivered by graduate student TJ Walker (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown), that Fraser got on the end of and scored at the far post.

Bentley though had to play the final 26-minutes of the match with 10 players after a red card.

Despite being a man-down, Bentley outshot Stonehill 5-1 during that time. Graduate student center back Nico Ruiz (Zaragoza, Spain) had two shots that were saved by Hammersley, and a shot by senior Harrison Bourgeois (Maynard, Mass./Maynard) hit the post in the 72nd minute.

Bentley will next be in action on Saturday when they host Saint Michael's at 11:00 am.
