Army West Point Gains Series Split with 2-1 Victory over Bentley on Senior Day

WALTHAM, Mass. – Army West Point's Joey Baez scored the tie breaking goal with 1:37 left as the Black Knights defeated the Falcons 2-1 on Saturday at Bentley Arena.

Prior to the game, seniors Matt Thomson, Jonathan Bendorf, Ethan Harrison, Josh Latta, Nick Bochen, Nicholas Grabko and Ethan Leyh were honored on Senior Day for their contributions to the Bentley community both on and off the ice.

But it was Army West Point that emerged with the victory for a series split, after Bentley won Friday's contest 4-2.

With the game tied 1-1 and the clock winding down towards overtime, Baez' 13th goal of the season gave his team the lead and eventually the win.

A pass along the right side boards by Easton Zueger to Eric Huss in the corner set the goal up. Huss slid pass to Baez inside the right circle for a quick shot to the near side for the goal.

After a scoreless first 20 minutes where Bentley outshot Army 13-4, it was the Black Knights that scored the game's first goal at 6:53 of the second period.

Falcons goalie Nicholas Grabko made an initial save on shot by John Driscoll, but Mac Gadowsky was there in front of the net to score off the rebound.

With just over two minutes remaining in the period however, the Falcons tied the score on a power play goal by defenseman Sam Duerr, for his 5th goal of the season. Bentley went on the power play after a roughing call on Army with 3:22 left.

The goal started when a shot by Ethan Leyh went wide but Stephen Castagna retrieved the rebound above the left faceoff dot. Castagna then drove in on net and feathered a cross-ice pass to Duerr, who one-timed his shot past Army goalie Evan Szary on the near post.

The game ticked on through the third period tied 1-1 until Baez's goal.

Just four games remain in the regular season. The Falcons next go on the road to face Canisius in Buffalo for a series starting next Friday night.
