Castagna’s OT Goal Gives Bentley 3-2 Road Win over Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Stephen Castagna scored with 2:06 remaining in overtime to give Bentley a 3-2 road win over Sacred Heart on Saturday night.

With the teams skating three-on-three in overtime after regulation ended tied 2-2, Castagna's goal gave the Falcons a series split.

Leading up to the goal Castagna jumped on a loose puck along the boards before it left Bentley's offensive zone. He drove in on goal with space to maneuver and fired off a shot from just above the left faceoff dot that beat SHU goalie Chase Clark above his stick.

The goal was his 4th of the season and was assisted by Ethan Leyh.

After a scoreless first period the teams went back-and-forth in the second period with two goals each.

Freshman Kellan Hjartarson's sixth goal of the year at the 1:07 mark gave Bentley a 1-0 lead, but just 39 seconds later SHU's TJ Walsh scored to tie the game.

The Pioneers took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Blake Humphrey at the 6:00 mark. But before the period ended the Falcons drew even on Arlo Merritt's 5th of the season.

Quick passes by Pat Lawn and Ryan Upson into the offensive zone saw Merritt break free down the right wing. With Josh Latta skating down the middle as an option for a pass, Merritt instead shot himself from the right faceoff dot and beat Clark short side for the goal.

Bentley had a 25-19 edge in shots and goalie Connor Hasley made 17 saves for the win.
