Bentley and AIC Tie 2-2; Yellow Jackets Take Shootout

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley and AIC played to a 2-2 tie in the second game of a home-and-home series at Bentley Arena on Friday night. The Yellow Jackets won the shootout in the fourth round, 2-1, but Bentley took four of six points from the series.

After Bentley's Cole Kodsi (Boca Raton, Fla.) scored 1:36 into the 2nd period to tie the score 2-2, neither team scored again in regulation and overtime.

In the shootout, AIC's Blake Bennett scored in the 1st round to give them a 1-0 lead. Bentley's Harrison Scott (San Jose, Calif.) scored in the 2nd round with a nice deke move to even it at 1-1.

Neither team scored in the 3rd round. Bentley's Danny Pearson was denied by AIC goalie Jarrett Fiske to begin the 4th round. AIC's Casey McDonald then scored to give the Yellow Jackets the shootout victory.

They get two points for the shootout win and Bentley one. But the Falcons took four points from the series after Wednesday's 4-3 victory in Springfield.

AIC scored the game's first goal and grabbed a 1-0 lead when Bennett scored his 18th goal of the season at 7:45 of the 1st period.

But Bentley responded less than two minutes later when Scott lit the lamp on the power play. Matt Gosiewski (Stamford, Conn.) had the puck along the right side boards and passed across the ice to Scott on the point. Scott fed Lucas Vanroboys (Thamesville, Ontario) in the slot who put a shot on net that Fiske saved. But the rebound popped to Scott who scored from close range with a backhander for his 7th of the season.

Just over two minutes after that goal however, AIC took the lead back on a goal by center Brett Rylance at the 11:58 mark.

In the 2nd period, Kodsi's second goal of the weekend and 6th of the year knotted the game 2-2. This one came on the power play as well. Gosiewski had the puck along the left side boards and fed Kodsi on the edge of the left faceoff circle. He wheeled around and beat Fiske with a quick shot to his glove side.

Late in the game and with the score still tied 2-2, Bentley nearly won it with about 28 seconds left when Nicholas Niemo (Middlebury, Vt.) was teed up for a shot by Arlo Merritt (Halifax, Nova Scotia) but Niemo's shot went off the post.

Bentley had a couple of good chances in the 3-on-3 overtime from Stephen Castagna (North Vancouver, B.C.) and Nick Bochen (North Vancouver, B.C) but both were denied by Fiske.

The Falcons had a 39-31 edge in shots on the night.
