Niemo Selected as HCA National Co-Rookie of the Month

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University's freshman forward Nicholas Niemo (Middlebury, Vt.) was named the Hockey Commissioners Association National Co-Rookie of the Month for January, it was announced on Tuesday.

In eight January games, Niemo led Atlantic Hockey in both assists (9) and points (13). He scored four goals, which was tied for the second most on the team. He also led the team in +/- for the month.

He was named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month for January and was twice named the Rookie of the Week.

The Vermont native had a seven-game points streak in January, and he extended it to eight games and into February with an assist last Friday against Holy Cross.

Niemo was first named Rookie of the Week on Jan. 16 after he had six points in Bentley's sweep of Niagara. The second time was on Jan. 30 after he scored two goals in the team's 5-3 win at Mercyhurst on Jan. 28.

On the season he leads the Falcons in both points (19) and assists (13) and is tied for second in goals (6).

The other HCA Co-Rookie of the Month was Boston University defenseman Lane Hutson.

Bentley is back in action on Wednesday night to open a home-and-home series with American International. Wednesday's game is in Springfield and Friday's game is at Bentley Arena.
