Niemo Scores Twice in Bentley’s 5-3 Win over Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. – Freshman Nicholas Niemo (Middlebury, Vt.) scored two goals to help Bentley to a 5-3 victory at Mercyhurst on Saturday night.

The win gave the Falcons a split of the series.

Bentley fell behind 2-0 after Mercyhurst scored a goal in the first period and at 5:09 of the second period. But the Falcons then ripped off five unanswered goals the rest of the way.

The first two goals came just over a minute apart late in the second period. Sophomore Danny Pearson (Vancouver, B.C.) scored at the 17:57 mark after he skated on to a centering pass from Lucas Vanroboys (Thamesville, Ontario) and redirected it under the pads of Lakers goalie Tyler Harmon.

Just over a minute later, freshman Nicholas Niemo (Middlebury, Vt.) tied the game up after a give-and-go with line mate Stephen Castagna (North Vancouver, B.C.) that saw Niemo poke home Castagna's pass from the right wing.

The goal extended Niemo's points streak to seven straight games.

Niemo then scored the go-ahead goal on the power play at 8:43 of the 3rd period, with Ryan Nause (Riverview, New Brunswick) and Matt Gosiewski (Stamford, Conn.) on the assists. The goal was Niemo's 6th of the season and 18th point.

The Falcons then made it a 4-2 game with 5:32 remaining on a goal by freshman Arlo Merritt (Halifax, Nova Scotia), who finished off a two-on-one chance, with Cole Kodsi (Boca Raton, Fla.) on the assist.

Defenseman Tucker Hodgson (Grand Forks, N.D.) added an empty-net goal with 1:02 remaining to make the score 5-2.

The Lakers added a late goal by Garrett Dahm with 15 seconds left to provide the final 5-3 margin.

Falcons goalie Nicholas Grabko (Channahon, Ill.) made 34 saves to earn the win.
