RIT Tops Bentley in Series Finale 3-1

WALTHAM, Mass. – RIT defeated Bentley 3-1 on Saturday night behind three different goal scorers and 29 saves from goalie Tommy Scarfone.

Falcons defenseman Ryan Nause (Riverview, N.B.) scored his 2nd goal in three games in the third period to make it a 3-1 game, but the Tigers held on the rest of the way.

RIT scored twice under a minute apart late in the first period to take a 2-0 lead.

Senior center Caleb Moretz scored a power play goal with a shot from the right faceoff circle at 16:15 to give the Tigers the first goal of the game.

51 seconds later graduate student defenseman Matt Kellenberger scored with a shot from the blue line to make it 2-0.

In the second period, right wing Elijah Gonsalves gave RIT a 3-0 lead when he tipped in a shot in front of the net for a goal. The shot came from Tyler Mahan from the left faceoff circle.

Following the goal, Bentley's penalty kill came up with a big stop, as they killed off a 5-on-3 power play for RIT that lased over a minute, for the second time this weekend.

In the 3rd period the Falcons converted on a power play chance with Nause's goal at 2:16 to make it a 3-1 game. Nicholas Niemo (Middlebury, Vt.) had the puck down low and fed it back to Hunter Toale (Coral Springs, Fla.) on the point.

Toale fed Nause, whose low shot got through traffic and past Scarfone for the goal.

Bentley had two power play chances the rest of the way, RIT was able to come up with stops to keep the score 3-1.

Falcons goalie Connor Hasley (Tonawanda, N.Y.) made 34 saves on the night.

Bentley will be back in action next weekend on the road when they visit Niagara.
