Bentley Falls to Sacred Heart 6-3 in Series Finale

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Bentley dropped the second game of its series with Sacred Heart 6-3 on Saturday afternoon for a series split.

The Falcons won Friday's series opener against the Pioneers 3-1.

Freshman goalie Connor Hasley (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) made a season and career-high 41 saves tonight.

Sacred Heart led 1-0 after a first period goal by Neil Shea, but Hasley made 17 saves in the opening period. Included in that number was a penalty shot save on Blake Humphrey at the 12:38 mark. Hasley made a pad save as Humphrey attempted a low shot to his stick side.

The Pioneers began to create some separation early in the 2nd period with three goals in the opening 4:34.

Daniel Ebrahim scored at 1:51, followed by Austin Magera at 4:03 and Kevin Lombardi at 4:34.

Just over a minute later though Bentley began to fight back as sophomore Harrison Scott (San Jose, Calif.) scored his second goal of the weekend and 5th of the season. The goal came after Scott took a shot from the top of the left faceoff circle that was saved by Luke Lush, but Scott followed his shot and scored off the rebound.

Freshman Stephen Castagna (North Vancouver, B.C.) then made it a two-goal game with a power play strike at 13:19. Arlo Merritt (Halifax, Nova Scotia) kept the puck in the zone before it went over the blue line and fed a pass to Castagna in space. Castagna then skated into the slot and beat Lush with a shot to the stick side that also was between two SHU defenders.

The Pioneers got a goal early in the 3rd period from Hunter Sansbury to go ahead 5-2, but senior Eric Linell (Great Neck, N.Y.) again cut the deficit to two with a goal at 6:31.

Linell beat an SHU defender to the puck as it bounced into Bentley's offensive zone and charged in on Lush, who came out to challenge. Linell dove as the puck got ahead of him and beat Lush with a one-handed shot for the goal to make it 5-3.

Neither team was able to score for the next 11 minutes, but Sacred Heart got an empty net goal from Lombardi at 17:23 to close it out at 6-3.

Bentley will be back in action on Thursday night at AIC to begin a home and home series.
