Bentley Falls to Union; Connell Scores for Falcons

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union's Tyler Watkins scored two goals in the 1st period to lead the Dutchmen to a 5-1 victory over visiting Bentley University on Thursday night at Messa Rink.

Sophomore Cooper Connell (West Vancouver, B.C.) scored for the Falcons in the 3rd period. Defenseman Nick Bochen (North Vancouver, B.C.) and sophomore Danny Pearson (Vancouver, B.C.) had the assists. Bochen now has three points in the first two games of the season after he had two points in the season opener at BU.

The goal came after sustained pressure in Union's zone, and after the puck was cycled around, Bochen skated in and had a shot from close range saved by Dutchmen goalie Connor Murphy. But Connell was there on the far post to score off the rebound to light the lamp.

Watkins' two goals gave Union a 2-0 lead midway through the 1st period. And in the second period, the hosts received goals from Caden Villegas at 2:03 and Chaz Smedsrud on the power play at the 11:04 mark.

Falcons goalie Connor Hasley (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) stopped eight of nine shots he faced over the final 28 minutes of the game.

Bentley will be back in action on Saturday when they host Maine for the home opener at Bentley Arena. Faceoff is set for 5:05 PM.
