Bentley Takes on Union Thursday Before Home Opener vs. Maine on Saturday

The Matchups: After being off last weekend Bentley returns to the ice this week with a pair of games. The Falcons will take on Union College on Thursday at 7:00 pm in game that can be seen on ESPN+. Then on Saturday, Bentley will host the University of Maine for its home opener at 5:05 PM.

Last Time Out: Bentley dropped its season opener to No. 9 ranked BU on Oct. 1, 8-2. Junior defenseman Nick Bochen, a transfer from Quinnipiac, scored his first goal in a Bentley uniform in the first period. Sophomore Harrison Scott also scored in the second period.

Scott and freshman Ryan Upson had the assists on Bochen's goal and Cole Kodsi and Bochen on Scott's goal.

Five freshmen made their NCAA debuts in the season opener and two transfers, Bochen and Josh Latta, made their debuts as Falcons.

 

Series History: Bentley and Union have played twice before, in the 2003-04 and 2005-06 seasons, both wins for the Dutchmen. Bentley's last game against an ECAC team was last season against Harvard and their last win against the ECAC was a 1-0 victory over Brown on Nov. 26, 2019.

The Falcons and Black Bears have played twice before, both at Alfond Arena, and the series is tied 1-1. Bentley won the first ever meeting, 3-1 on Jan. 16, 2009. Maine won the next matchup, 2-1 on Oct. 19, 2013.

 

History vs. Hockey East: Bentley has earned 12 wins against Hockey East schools since the 2008-09 season. Last season they defeated Boston College at home 6-2, for their second win over the Eagles. Bentley has also beaten Northeastern (4), UNH (2), UMass-Lowell, Boston University, UMass and Maine.

 

Home Openers: At Bentley Arena, the Falcons are 2-2 in home openers. The wins came against Ohio State last season by a 2-1 score and against New Hampshire 3-2 in the 2019-20 season.

 

Up Next: The Falcons will take on Ohio State in Columbus next week for two games, on Thursday and Friday nights at 7:00 pm. The games can be streamed on the Big Ten Network.

Bentley and Ohio State played a series in Waltham last season and split the two games.
