Grabko, Kodsi Shine as Bentley Knocks Off No. 6 Boston College

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore goalie Nicholas Grabko stopped 32 of the first 33 shots he faced and classmate Cole Kodsi scored the game's first two goals as Bentley University knocked off number six-ranked Boston College, 6-2, on Saturday night before more than 2,100 fans at The Bentley Arena.

It was a 1-0 Bentley lead through two periods, with the only goal coming off the stick of Kodsi at 6:51 of the 1st period.

A burst of three goals by the Falcons in the first 6:15 of the 3rd period made it a 4-1 game and sent the Bentley Arena crowd into a frenzy. They weren't finished after that burst, as sophomore defenseman Drew Bavaro (Bradenton, Fla.) extended the Bentley advantage to 5-1 when he scored just past the midway point of the 3rd.

Bentley scored its fifth goal of the 3rd period for a 6-2 lead when senior Dylan Pitera (Culver, Ind.) scored with 5:29 remaining.

The Falcons' fourth line of Kodsi, Lucas Vanroboys and Pitera dominated on the night as they combined for three goals and three assists for six points. Grabko, who beat Ohio State in his last start, finished with 38 saves.

Bentley jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 13:09 of the 1st period when Kodsi buried his first goal of the season. In the high slot Kodsi snapped off a wrist shot that beat BC goalie Henry Wilder high and to the glove side.

Grabko made eight saves in the opening period as Bentley outshot the Eagles 11-8 in the first 20 minutes.

BC had a 14-11 edge in shots for the 2nd period but Grabko turned them all away, including several high-quality scoring chances for the Eagles from close range.

Early in the 3rd period, Kodsi's second goal of the game at the 2:49 mark gave Bentley a 2-0 lead. The crowd hadn't even finished celebrating Kodsi's goal, when just 33 seconds later grad student Collin Rutherford (Tonawanda, N.Y.) made it 3-0 with his 2nd goal of the season.

BC got back in it and answered with its first goal of the night at 4:54 off the stick of Jack McBain.

But Bentley responded and made it 4-1 at 6:15 when junior Eric Linell (Great Neck, N.Y.) lit the lamp for the first time in a Bentley uniform.

Bavaro scored at 10:20 with a laser of a shot from just inside the blue line to make it 5-1 for the Falcons. Pitera then put the exclaimation point on an outstanding night for his line when he scored the final goal of the game with 5:29 left on the clock. After a shot by Vanroboys was blocked, Pitera collected the loose puck and beat Wilder to the glove side with a shot from the low slot.

The Falcons improved to 2-2 on the season with the win, while the Eagles fell to 2-1-1.

Bentley's next game is Thursday night at Holy Cross. That game will be broadcast on NESN.
