Army West Point Tops Bentley 2-1 in OT on Haider’s Goal; Grande Makes 37 Saves

West Point, N.Y. – Army West Point's Daniel Haider scored 1:29 into overtime to give the Black Knights a 2-1 victory over the Bentley University hockey team on Saturday night. Falcons goalie Jason Grande (West Chester, Pa.) made 37 saves.

The teams traded goals in the early going of the 1st period. Bentley's Michael Zuffante (Bloomingdale, Ill.) scored just 2:52 into the game, for his 3rd goal of the season and 7th of his career against the Black Knights.

Freshman Ethan Harrison (Plano, Texas) got the play started by pushing the puck up the ice and feeding a pass to junior Will Schlagenhauf (Carmel, Ind.) into the offensive zone. Schlagenhauf then slid a pass across to Zuffante, who fired off a shot from the top of the right face-off circle to beat Black Knights goalie Trevin Kozlowski low and to the stick side.

Army though tied the game just over three minutes later when junior right winger Colin Bilek scored his 13th goal of the season.

From that point on both goalies slammed the door. Grande went on to make 36 straight saves over the remainder of the game, including 14 in both the 2nd and 3rd periods. He also helped Bentley's penalty kill go 5-5 on the night.

Kozlowski denied several point-blank scoring chances for the Falcons. Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) had shots on the doorstep in the first period that Kozlowski denied. While in the 3rd period, Zuffante had a shot on the far post denied by Kozlowski's diving save after Will Garin (Mound, Minn.) had set up Zuffante for the shot with a cross-ice pass.

With the score still tied 1-1 after 60 minutes the game went to overtime. This was Bentley's 2nd OT game in a row and 6th of the season, but Army took the win when Haider scored with a shot from the right face-off circle after a pass from Eric Butte.

Bentley's next game is scheduled to be on Tuesday at home against Sacred Heart.
