Bentley Earns One Point, but Falls in Overtime to Air Force 4-3

Waltham, Mass. – The Bentley University hockey team earned a point in the standings on Monday night, but fell in overtime to the Air Force Falcons 4-3 at Bentley Arena.

The game was tied 1-1 at the start of the 3rd period and the teams traded goals throughout the final 20 minutes to send the game to OT tied 3-3. In the 3-on-3 overtime, Air Force won it when left wing Willie Reim drove in on net and crashed into Bentley goalie Fraser Kirk (Burlington, Ontario) for the winning goal with 1:46 remaining.

Air Force took a 2-1 lead early in the 3rd period with a goal from left wing Blake Bride at the 1:09 mark.

Bentley though tied the game with a goal by senior center Brendan Hamblet (Hopkinton, Mass.) just before the 11 minute mark. Luke Santerno (Smithers, B.C.) won the puck along the left boards and fed a pass to Jakov Novak (Windsor, Ontario) down low. Novak then passed to Hamblet in the left face-off circle, who then roofed a shot past Air Force goalie Alex Schilling for his 3rd of the season.

Just over a minute later, Bentley went ahead with a power play goal by sophomore Matt Gosiewski (Wilton, Conn.) at the 10:10 mark. Some nice quick passing by defenseman Drew Bavaro (Bradenton, Fla.) on the point to Novak on the wing set the goal up, after Novak found Gosiewski in the slot for a low shot past Schilling to give the Falcons a 3-2 lead.

But less than a minute after Gosiewski's goal, Air Force tied the game back up 3-3 with a goal by center Ty Pochipinski after a scramble in front of the net.

That tied the game 3-3 with about eight minutes remaining in regulation, and neither team scored again before overtime.

Bentley's goal in the first period came from Santerno, with Bavaro on the assist. Santerno had two points on the night, one night after he reached the 100 points milestone for his career.

Kirk finished with 33 saves for Bentley, including 12 in a busy first period.

Bentley is next scheduled to play on Thursday when they host Sacred Heart at 5:05 pm.
