Stuart & Picard Excel during Day 1 of Granite State Opener

CONCORD, N.H. – Bentley University senior captains Aidan Stuart (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS) and Timothy Picard (Dracut, Mass./Lowell Catholic HS) both excelled at the rainy Beaver Meadow Country Club Monday during the opening round of Southern New Hampshire University's Granite State Opener.

Stuart turned in a one-under-par 71, his best round as a Falcon and second best as a collegian. Picard also played well with an even-par 72. Stuart's effort put him in a tie for fifth place in the 74-player field and Picard stands in a tie for tenth.

As a team, Bentley totaled a 297, good for a tie for sixth place among the 13 teams. The Falcons finished the day only nine strokes out of first and seven out of second. Post, with an even par 288, leads Dominican by two strokes in the battle for team honors.

Monday's scheduled second round was rained out and as a result, the tournament was cut to 36 holes with the final round being played Tuesday, beginning at 8 am.

Also for the Falcons, freshman Andrew teDuits (Charlestown/Boston College HS) finished his first collegiate round with a 74 and sophomore James Davignon II (Medfield/Medfield HS) turned in a 75. teDuits finished the round tied for 19th and Davignon II is tied for 26th.

At the top of the day one leaderboard is Southern New Hampshire's Evan Rollins, with a four-under 68. A stroke back are two players from Post University, Bill Koch and Ethan Phillips.
